About the role
We are offering an internship opportunity in Financial Operations, beginning at the start of the intern’s current semester and concluding before the following semester begins. As our Financial Operations intern, your areas of focus will be learning to support daily financial processes, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance documentation. You’ll be regularly interacting with members of the Financial Operations team and will be mentored by our VP of Financial Operations.
Internships at Shift Markets are designed to provide students with hands-on training, similar to a university lab course, which enriches the educational experience. The goal of this internship is to add professional context to your specialized academic program for the upcoming academic year. A major in Quantitative Finance or Economics (or a related major such as Finance or Accounting), is best suited for tying this internship to an academic program.
As our Financial Operations Intern, you will gain valuable experience by:
Receiving mentorship directly from our VP of Financial Operations.
Gaining hands-on experience in financial reconciliations, reporting, and compliance under the supervision of our VP of Financial Operations.
Building professional skills in financial analysis, reporting tools, and internal controls with guidance from the VP of Financial Operations.
Learning how to complete reconciliation of daily transactions and balance, with guidance from the VP of Financial Operations.
Developing skills in the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, including cash flow and treasury reports under the supervision of the VP of Financial Operations.
Learning how to track and document internal financial operations processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance, under the supervision of the VP of Financial Operations.
Participating alongside Financial Operations team members in conducting variance analysis by comparing projections vs. actual results.
Learning about internal control testing and compliance documentation, with guidance from Financial Operations team members.
Conducting research alongside Financial Operations team members on vendors, transaction costs, and service providers for benchmarking.
Joining cross-functional meetings, capturing key financial insights, and following up on action items alongside Financial Operations team members.
The ideal intern is familiar with the following programs used by our company:
Google Apps Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
Microsoft Excel

The ideal intern already has these required skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
Meticulous attention to detail and well-organized
Self-motivated and able to focus in a remote environment
Adapts well to quickly changing priorities
Ability to give and receive constructive feedback to refine and improve
Qualified candidates meet the following expectations:
Experience that demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in progress, with a major in Quantitative Finance or Economics (or a related major such as Finance or Accounting).
This is an unpaid internship with academic credit available.
This internship requires 10-15 hours per week, which can be completed fully remote or in a hybrid format with our New York City headquarters.
Internships at Shift Markets are conducted without entitlement to a paid position upon completion.
